The American singer Nicole Hyde (2nd old) completed her bachelor’s degree at The Pennsylvania State University and her master’s degree from the University of Minnesota. As a soloist she sang among others. at houses such as the Sarasota Opera, the Kentucky Opera, the Center for Contemporary Opera (NYC), the Des Moines Metro Opera and the Opera Iowa. Her repertoire included roles such as Dorabella / COSI FAN TUTTE, Cherubino / LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Sesto / GIULIO CESARE and later, after a change of subject, Floßhilde / DAS RHEINGOLD, Schwertleite / DIE WALKÜRE and Ers-te Norn / GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG. Nicole Hyde also sang as a soloist in various concerts such as Mozart’s “Messa da Requiem”, Handel’s “Messiah”, Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater”, and Berlioz ‘“ Les Nuit d‘Ete ”.

Bio

American Mezzo-Soprano Nicole Hyde currently resides in Berlin, Germany, where she enjoys a blossoming career as a dramatic mezzo-soprano. This versatile singing actress has performed in recitals, operas, theater and film in Europe and the United States.

At home on the opera stage, the former lyric mezzo has performed a host of opera roles including Dorabella in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Sesto in Handel’s Giulio Cesare. She has sung with a number of opera companies, including Opera Iowa, Kentucky Opera, The Center for Contemporary Opera, and Music-Theater-Group in NYC.

A fine musician, Ms. Hyde has also enjoyed premiering the works of contemporary composers. She sang in the premiere of Daron Hagen’s Vera of Las Vegas where The New York Times referred to Ms. Hyde and her Catchall colleagues’ work as “impressive”, while Opera News reported that she and they “brought great dexterity, fine harmonizing and consistent beauty of tone” to the performance. She has sung on the Joy in Singing Composer’s Concert at the Bruno Water Auditorium at Lincoln Center where she performed John Harbison’s cycle North and South. She has also workshopped several new productions with Music-Theater-Group in New York City. These projects included The Rose Project and Izutsu – The Well Cradle which premiered at New York Theater Workshop.

Her interest in mixing genres, combining dance, art and new music, led her to several collaborations with different dance projects. The Village Voice proclaimed that she sang “elegantly” while collaborating with choreographers in the project Sourcing Stravinsky at Dance Theater Workshop. Ms Hyde also had the opportunity to premiere the works of her father, Peter Hyde, with the group Cherniak Dance at the 92nd Street Y, Riverside Church, Joyce SoHo and the Merce Cunningham Studio, all in New York City.

At home on the concert stage, this young mezzo has performed the Mozart Requiem, Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria with Christ Episcopal Church in Newton, NJ. She has also sung Berlioz’s Les Nuit d’Ete, Pergolesi’s Magnificat, J.S. Bach’s Cantata 182 and Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with the Huntington Choral Society, St. Joseph’s Church and the Riverside Orchestra. In Berlin, she has appeared with the Spandau Sinfoniker singing excerpts from Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn and presented art song recitals which included the music of Robert Schumann, Richard Strauss, John Harbison, Charles Ives and Hector Berlioz, among others. As a member of the group Urban Opera, she has performed a host of concerts, including a program entitled Love Songs, where she sang the works of George Gershwin and Cole Porter.

Straight theater also holds an interest for Ms. Hyde. Since living in Berlin, she has performed theater both in English and in German. She has appeared on the stage in an adaptation of Sarah Kane’s 4.48 Psychosis – preview as part of the HAU 100° Festival in Berlin. In addition, she has performed at Rroma Theater Klub as Becky in Keine Party ohne Billy, an adaptation of Harold Pinter’s play The Party and as the Singer in Anders*, also based on the writings of Sarah Kane. She has also acted in one short film, The Kitchen Sink Drama.
